Dr. Howard L. Smith is Associate Professor of Bilingual/Multicultural Education and Biliteracy at the University of Texas at San Antonio. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Arizona in Language, Reading, and Culture.  His research interests include dual language education programs, multicultural children’s literature and biliteracy.   He is the co-editor (with Clark, E. R., Flores, B. B., and Gonzalez, D.) of Multicultural Literature for Latino Bilingual Children: Their Words, Their Worlds. (2016). He contributes to major research journals on matters of culture, literacy and teacher preparation for educational equity. Bilingual/biliterate in English and Spanish, Smith has given innumerable academic community presentations in the United States and abroad and offers consultancies and staff development for school districts throughout the U.S. His latest article, co-authored with Dr. Kalpana Iyengar, is entitled “Asian Indian American Children’s Creative Writing: An Approach for Cultural Preservation” to be published by the Journal of Educational Studies.
